Grammie was on a roll

I went to visit Grammie and Pa today.  I said hi to Grammie and she looked at me and said, "I love you."  How precious.  Then Maritza was being funny and I asked Grammie if we should keep her.  She said, "Hopefully."  Maritza thought that was funny.  Grammie and I worked on the crossword puzzle for quite awhile before things turned interesting.  Someone was helping Pa and commented how tall he was.  She asked him if he had ever played basketball.  He said no.  I told Grammie and she said, "No he didn't like the game."  AJ mentioned that Grammie's sister Blanche had played so I asked Grammie about it.
Me: "Grammie, did Blanche play basketball?"
Grammie: "Yes, she did."
Me: "Was she any good?"
Grammie: "You'll have to ask her."
Me: "I've never met Blanche."
(A couple of seconds go by.)
Me: "I'm sorry to have missed Blanche."
Grammie: "She's not sorry to have missed you."
Me: "That's not very kind."
Grammie: "Kindness is out the door."
(At this, I laid my head on the table and started laughing.  Maritza was also laughing and didn't quite know what to think.)
Grammie: "I'm just telling the truth."
Me: "Yes, it's very important to tell the truth."
(A couple of seconds go by.)
Grammie: "Have you ever known someone not to tell you the truth?"
Me: "I hope everyone tells the truth.  It's very important."
Grammie: "Yes, it is."

At this, the conversation was over.

Thursday night babysitting

For the past 9 months, I have been babysitting on Thurs. after school until the parents get home anytime from 7-9.  The kids were in kindergarten (a boy) and 3rd grad (a girl).  I have to say that I have played more Legos than I thought possible.  It would usually start with me being asked to play and then being told to do all the work.  Since Christmas, the boys bedroom has had a small coffee table in his room and it's been covered by his "city."

The past three weeks we have been building random things for his city.  Three weeks ago it was announced that he had 3 sticks of Lego dynamite and he wasn't sure what he could build.  I mentioned that he could build a building and have it "implode."  We had to watch a video of what really happens and then we built a building with holes to hold the dynamite.

Last week he wanted to build a drawbridge.  After looking at pictures on the internet for Lego bridges we set out to replicate one.  I built the drawbridge and helped with the moat.  I noticed that he was putting his drawbridge near the museum and I asked him about that.  He said, "Oh it's not a museum.  I closed up shop.  It's out of business.  It's now a bank.  See my ATM machine."  The kid's imagination is unbelievable.

Tonight, I was surprised yet again.  First, I looked for his drawbridge but it had been disassembled.  I noticed that the bank was gone and it was a museum again.  I asked him about it and he said, "Oh, the bank sold and the new owners turned the building back into a museum.  Then, he wanted to build an oil rig and barge.  We had to go down to the computer (surprised?) and look up Lego oil rig sets.  I told him there was no such thing, but I was wrong.  We found out what they should look like as well as pictures of the real thing then we headed upstairs to build.  It looked fantastic.

I am sorry to say that I don't have any pictures.

5 Years

Five years ago today, Grammie was taken to the hospital and we wondered if she would live long.  It is hard to believe that it has been this long.  I was reflecting this morning about all that has happened and it is quite a list.

In the family:
There has been one marriage (Ben)
There have been 6 kids born
Audie's had 2 graduations
Maria graduated from nursing school
4 Grandkids graduated from High School

Me:
I've worked in 4 different schools
Continued to battle headaches
Earned my teaching degree
Made lots of quilts
Watched lots of I Love Lucy episodes with Grammie
Watched Secondhand Lions at least 3 times with Grammie
Read Grammie 5 1/2 of the 7 Harry Potter books

There have been lots of other things in my life and the rest of the family.  Looking back, I wonder if I had known then what I know now would I have done things differently.  I certainly don't regret the time I've spent there.

Grammie

Some days Grammie is on a roll.  Monday was one of those days.  I have finally realized that it's not personal and usually she is just trying to take care of me.  Some times what she says doesn't always make sense or come across as caring.

I had been at the house about 35 min. and was talking to Grammie.

Me: "I've had a headache all day today."
Grammie: "If I had the sense God gave green apples, I'd send you home."
Me: "Oh it's ok.  I was just making conversation."
Grammie: "Go make conversation with somebody else."

Needless to say that I left a little while later. :)

Random Pictures

I have been promising some of you that I would post some pictures from the last few months.  Here they are.

Here is a frog cupcake I made for Ollie (one of the kids I babysit)

Here is my old TV.  I could not see the score board.
Her is my new TV.  Now I can watch sports and see the score board.

A Productive Weekend

Friday I got off of work 2 hours early, so I took advantage of that and did my laundry at the laundry mat.  Then I came home and took a short nap before going down to Grammie and Pa's for 2 hours.  At six, I met a friend for dinner and we hung out til 10.
Saturday, I had a quiet morning and then I met Maritza at 1 to get fabric for her quilt.  She picked out gorgeous fabric and I can't wait to start working with it.  After the fabric shop, we went to Old Navy and I got green flip flops to wear to Audie's graduation.  I took Maritza back to Spencer's and then I came home.  I made a double batch of Lemon Poppy Seed muffins and they are delicious.  I sent an email to a friend.  Then I updated my resume and got it reposted for the district.
This morning, I went to the grocery store before church and came home to take a short nap.  I filled out my taxes and submitted them and then I swept the entry and bathroom floor.  Jack and Michelle came to pick me up and we headed down to historical museum only to find out they are closed on Sundays from October to April.  What a bummer.  We went downtown to Ben and Jerry's and got some ice cream and then we head to Kohl's to look for a pillow for Jack and shoes for Michelle.  Michelle desperately tried to get me to find a top to wear to Audie's graduation, but I haven't found one that I love. They brought me home and I read for a little bit.  Audie called and I got to talk to him which was fun.  I watched some TV, and then washed my drip pans.  I just finished a fleece quilt to give to someone who is struggling.
All in all, I have to say that this weekend was very busy, but a lot got done. I hope your weekend was restful and productive.
