I have been sick since the first of the year. Every year I hope that this is the year that my health is under control and I can finally be healthy, but that hasn't happened yet. I started the year with the flu which lasted over a week. Then I had a migraine for 2 1/2 weeks. That went away after seeing the doctor twice. Then I got a cold which turned into a sinus infection. After taking meds for 5 days I finally woke up feeling better and then I got another migraine which I've had for 5 days. I saw the doctor today and he adjusted my upper body and my migraine went away for about 30 min. and it was back. He said it's a stress migraine and I need to stop feeling like I need to get things done. Now, those that know me know how hard that is for me. I have a list of things that I feel need to be done and should have been done before yesterday. For example, my list at the moment includes: making a quilt for Janice's birthday (first part of April), making a quilt for Maritza as an Easter present, making a quilt for a high school student at church who is graduating, and my memory quilt before August. This list doesn't include daily and weekly things that I feel should be getting done.
I understand what Dr. Peine is saying and I've decided to try and approach things a little differently. My goal is going to be looking at the things that I have accomplished in a day and then in a week. I hope that this will show me that I do lots of things, but they may not be on my goals list. Forgive me if the next few posts seem a little boring. I hope to blog about what my day/week looks like. Maybe seeing it in print will change my attitude.
I'll start with the weekend.
-Friday afternoon I got a call to babysit at the last minute for a family I had been referred to. I left work at 2:45, talked to the mom for a few minutes and went home to rest, change clothes, and make dinner. When I got home Audie called and we talked for awhile. It's always great to talk to him because he is so positive and such and encouragement to me. I rested for a few minutes, make my dinner and headed out the door at 4:15. I went to the post office and mailed a package, then went to the library to kill a couple of minutes. After checking out a couple of books, I headed to babysit. I watched 2 adorable boys (ages 2 &4) from 5-8:30. I got home and fell asleep by 9:30. I slept until 7:30 Saturday morning.
-Saturday, I went to see Grammie and Pa from 10:30-12. I left their house and came home to take a long nap. Saturday evening I cut out some quilt fabric and chilled.
-Sunday, I went to the grocery store and then to church. I got home around 11 and fell asleep for a little bit. I talked to Grandma Michigan for awhile and then spent 4 1/2 hours making sweet potato biscuits. (They didn't really turn out by the way.) At 5:30, I went to Jack and Michelle's and stayed til 9. I fell asleep around 10:15 and work up at 1 from a bad dream. I was awake til 2:15 ish and then woke up at 6:45.
-Mom called at 7:15 forgetting that I didn't have school, but it was ok because I was awake. We talked until almost 8. I got up and turned on the oven thinking I could fix my biscuits by adding more flour to the dough. It sort of worked. At 10:15, I went to Costco to get gas and Almonds and then headed to lunch with Julia. We had lunch from 11-12:15 and then I went to Fred Meyer for Potato Starch. I had some time, so I went to Target to look at vacuum sealers. I didn't buy one because they are too expensive there, maybe Amazon? At 1 I headed to my appointment with Dr. Peine. The appointment was for 1:30, so I sat and enjoyed the quiet while looking at magazines. I left his office around 2:20 and went to Winco because I realized I didn't have enough Tapioca Starch. I got to Grammie and Pa's at 3 and stayed until 4:30. As I got home around 5, I started a batch of bread. That should take about 3 hours until it's done. As I was gathering the ingredients for my bread, I cleaned out my spice cupboard. Now it looks neat and tidy. Oh the joy of the little things in life. :-) I cooked stuffed peppers for dinner which took awhile, but it was worth it. Then, while I was watching tv, I took the rows of Maritza's quilt and sewed them into a top. So now I just need to put the back on and quilt it.
As I type this, it's no wonder I'm exhausted all the time and don't have a lot of free time. Each week, I get up and go to work which is difficult on most days. I pour myself into the kids while I'm there for 7 hours. Then, 3 days a week I head to Grammie and Pa's for 1-2 hours. If I'm feeling well, Tuesday is Bible Study night which means that I leave my house around 6:15 and get home around 9:30. Sundays, I spend the afternoon baking bread and sometimes have dinner with Jack and Michelle.
It seems from this post that I do a lot more than I tend to give myself credit for. I'm going to try and see the accomplishments I do achieve and not be so worried about the things that don't get done.
Hey hon- it is Rachel- I forgot about your blog! You have always filled your days up with worthwhile things and I'm glad you are taking note of it. I hope this helps you learn to let go of the excess and get the rest you need.
